I originally downloaded the software to my macbook pro and everything was working fine with connectivity. then out of the blue my printer no longer wants to connect with my macbook pro or vice versa. Im running on a wireless network, and like i said it was set up correctly before. Ive tried taking it off and adding it back onto "printers and scanners". And ive also tried re-downloading the drivers. When I do that, i doesnt recognise the printer and im unable to go ahead with the downloads. Please HELP!

Hi,
Try removing the printer and then re-adding it by opening the preferences tab and then selecting "printers & scanners".
From there, click the minus sign under the printer icon to remove the printer and then re-add it using the plus sign.
This often helps if you are experienceing printer offline issues regularly.
If you still can't find the printer, I would try the steps with the usb connected and if a wireless connection is established, then remove it.
If the issue persists, restart your mac and try again and if this doesn't help, then restart your router also.

My MacBook Air has been connected to my Envy 4520 for some months and has worked perfectly. This evening I tried to print a document and received an error message saying that the printer was unable to communicate.. I have restarted both the Mac and printer but the situation remains the same. Incidentally the blue indicator light on the Envy 4520 is on continuously, which presumably means that there is a working WiFi link between the MacBook and printer.
Any guidance on how to overcome the problem would be gratefully received.
Many thanks,
John Falck

@Saileasy, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
- Make sure the printer and the MAC are connected to the same wireless network.
- This printer supports only 2.4GHz network.
- If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
- The wireless status menu on your Mac should also give us quite a lot of information that would help us identify the issue. You can press and hold the option key on your keyboard and click the WiFi icon to get detailed information.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on MAC
Restart the network devices
- Turn off the Router, Printer, and the computer/ mobile devices.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Turn on the Router first and wait for all the lights to stabilize.
- Turn on the printer and allow it to configure itself.
- Turn on the computer/ mobile devices.
Check the connectivity between the printer and the MAC
- Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the Wireless icon on the printer
- On the MAC Go to Spotlight > search for Network utility > select Ping tab > enter the IP address of the printer in the box
- Check the second box that says Send only > 10 pings
- Click on ping > Check the results at the end if any packets are lost
- Note: There should be 0% packet loss, share the results in your next post.
Let me know how this goes.
