I have a HP ENVY 6230 and despite having photo paper in the tray, I am continually unable to print photos as I keep getting an "out of paper" message.

When I pull the paper tray out and replace, the printer recognises it has 4x6 photo paper but simply won't print. 

 

It makes a lot of trying to print noises but never succeeds.

If you have already performed the steps from the document 'Out of Paper' Displays, Printer Does Not Pick Up Paper and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.

 

Please reach out to HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.
