I hope someone might help as I have blurred printing with my HP Envy 120 and am out of ideas on how to remedy.
I have:
Printed several pages as I thought it was linked to dry jets / infrequent use
Installed new HP branded ink
Use HP printer paper
Cleaned and aligned the nozzles, all levels
Attempted to install latest drivers from HP - I believe this was successful.
Attempted to update the firmware - This appeared to fail on the HP look up website
The issue
Printing via MS Word (for Mac) or PDF results in some words printing incomplete. It is not always the same word or position on the document. To my untrained perspective it looks as though the software isn't transcribing the print instructions properly to the printer leading to a printed version of what I imagine packet losses would look like. I think this as the printing appears to be like how it would look if the cartridge was running dry but words, paragraphs after it print perfectly. I hope the attached image can explain better than my words can what I am getting. You'll see its missed the Proj from Project Manager, and the bottom of the p on Dependencies and Improvement. The three page document has several instances of this. No amount of cleaning and aligning nozzles appears to rectify it.
This problem has existed since I purchased a previous model of this printer and HP previously sent me a replacement printer. Both models had the issue which makes me think it is software related between Mac OS and the printer. The printer is of course now out of warranty and in case you are wondering why I put up with the blurred printing for several years, I used it infrequently but now need to print CVs and they look unprofessional with these minor printing errors on them.
Open to any ideas / suggestions as I've checked the boards and followed all the usual suggestions.

May I know which App are you using to print?
Try printing a Quality Diagnostic page and let me know if you see any defects
-
Load plain white U.S. letter or A4 size paper in the tray.
-
On the printer control panel, touch the Settings icon (
).
-
Touch Tools, and then touch Print Quality Report. The printer prints the test page.
If the Diagnostic page is without defects, try using HP Smart App for Printing and let me know if it works. Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c06188214
Keep me posted
Thank you

Hi Toad, thank you for replying to my message.
I have ran a Print Diagnostic as well as followed Level 1 and Level 2 (deeper) cleaning.
I have also aligned the print cartridges.
The print diagnostic report is copied below. I see minor errors in the black. In the past I have ran the cleaning multiple times and this has cleared up and I have received a perfect print report. The smearing still appears when printing from my Mac though.
You asked what App I am using to print - I am using the in-built Print option in either pdf or MS Word. File - Print on the Apple toolbar at the top of my screen. I will now download and attempt to use the HP Print App you suggest and will come back to you once tested.
Darren.

Please ensure your Mac and Printer have the latest updates
Printer Firmware: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168
Mac update: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT2015
Next remove and Re-add the printer using Airprint. AirPrint is an Apple technology that helps you create full-quality printed output without the need to download or install drivers.
1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
4.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint or Secure AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
6.) Try to print
Let me know how it goes😊

Hi Toad,
I have carried out the steps you recommended and found that my printer had the latest software as indeed did my Mac.
I then deleted my printer and re-added it using AirPrint which was exceedingly simple to do.
So far, I've only printed a couple of pages the issues I had previously appear to have gone away. So fingers crossed. I will check back with you in a weeks time to confirm and to mark your solution as accepted. Thank you for taking the time to assist me, it is greatly appreciated.
Darren.

Hi Toad,
The suggestions you provided have improved the print out however I am afraid to say not completely. I would say the printouts are now error free about 75% of the time with only the occasion blip and then only in one or two places in the document, not as frequent as it was before.
If you had any other suggestions, I would try them. Thank you.
