The ink cartridges were low so I replaced them and, now, the printer will not print black ink. I checked on whether the cartridge is seated properly (it seems to be) and I have cleaned the printhead twice. What should I try next?

Thanks! As per this document, power resetting the printer and performing and automated and manual cartridge cleaning is the only way to resolve this issue. Let's try these steps:

1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector

2) Remove all of your ink cartridges from the printer and close the door

3) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)

4) Clean the electrical contacts, refer to step 12 from this document.

5) Plug the power cord back into the printer

6) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the ink cartridges.

7) On the printer control panel, press the Down Arrow  to select Tools, and then press OK.

😎 Press the Down Arrow  to select Clean Printhead, and then press OK.

9) On the printer control panel, press the down arrow  to select Align Printer, and then press OK.

10) Place the alignment page with the print side down on the scanner glass.

11.) Close the scanner lid, and then touch OK.

Let me know how it goes!

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

I understand you are not able to print in black and I'll be glad to help you out. However, for an accurate solution, I would need more details:

Are you able to copy documents in black?

Does the test page printed after printhead cleaning contains black?

Any error on the printer display?

How is the printer connected, USB or Wireless?

Let me know!

None of the pages produced by this printer include blackand there are no errors showing on the display. I also tried copying a document and the black was not printing either.

I am connecting using wireless.

I followed all the instructions and my ENVY 4500 still will not print black ink;

I have tried two new black ink cartiridges; I have unplugged the printer from the back and turned back on;

I have used tools to clean the printhead more than once;

Any other suggestions?
