HP ENVY 4500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I turned my HP ENVY 4500 printer on after not using it for about 2 years, and I'm getting the following message: "Ink Cartridge(s) Problem: The following Ink Cartridge(s) must be replaced," followed by the icon for the black ink cartridge. I have the correct #61 type ink cartridges installed; note, they are ValueToner brand, which I don't recall having an issue with in the past. I have tried doing a hard reset of the printer and also removing and cleaning both cartridges according to HP's instructions. However, I'm still getting the error message and can't exit out of it. Because of the persistent error message, I am unable to connect the printer to the wifi, and I don't have a USB cable so I can't connect it to the computer to update the firmware to see if that's the issue. I want to know if there's another solution I can try before replacing the ink cartridge(s), because they are quite expensive!

Thanks, @KrazyToad. I ordered a new HP 61 economy black ink cartridge, and replaced the old ink cartridge. I also had to remove the tri-color cartridge and run the printer in single cartridge mode. And it worked! Next step would be to get a new tri-color cartridge but I haven't had need for it yet.

Thanks for the help.
