My HP Envy 4500 will not print in color. Not even the test page. There is no 'color tab' in the print options. It prints fine in black. The color ink cartridge is not low.
I've already uninstall and reinstalled the latest drivers and no difference.
Please help.
Thanks.

Greetings @mols21,
Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.
I understand that you have reinstalled the printer software on your MAC and are unable to print in color as the color tab is missing, is that right?
Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.
Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.
Are you able to make a copy in color on the printer?
May I know the version of the MAC OS installed in your computer?
Request you follow the procedure mentioned below to uninstall the printer software, reset the printing system, restart your MAC and then download and install the full feature software on your computer and check.
(Have the printer disconnected from the computer during uninstallation.)
HP Printers - Uninstalling HP Printer Software (Mac)
Once you have uninstalled the printer software, reset the printing system.
HP Printers - Resetting the Printing System (Mac)
Restart the MAC.
Visit www.hp.com/drivers download the latest full feature software for your printer and install it on your MAC.
Power on the printer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
Let me know if this helped.

Same problem here. Test page prints fine, and machine makes color copies. But, it will not print PC documents in color. Preference is set to MONOCHROME and, no matter that I have changed it to COLOR many times, it always reverts back to MONOCHROME. Please help!
I tried twice this morning to get help from the HP website, but the Virtual Assistant got stuck both times when attempting to connect me with a Support Person. I can’t find a phone number to call for help either. :o(

Hi @Davcat7,
Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues while printing in color from your HP Envy 4500 printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
After reviewing your post, I see that you are able to print test pages as well as make color copies, this definitely looks like a software or driver issue.
Could you provide me with the Operating system installed on the PC? Windows or Mac
How is the printer connected? USB/Wireless
Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Remove USB cable, if present.
Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
For Windows : I would suggest here is to do a clean install to get the issue fixed.
First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Deskjet printer entries and uninstall them.
Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
Go to Run again, type “%temp%” and press enter to get the temporary files. Delete all the files here. Skip the items which cannot be deleted.
Restart your computer.
Now click https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers (Please enter the product number and then select the Operating system and version of Windows before downloading and installing the updated printer software.
Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
If you are using MAC OS, then try the steps here:
- Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
- Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
- Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
- Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
- Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
- Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
- Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
- Click the “Add button” (+).
- Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
- Click “Print Using...” or “Use”, and then select Secure AirPrint or AirPrint. Alternatively, you may select the name of your printer if available in that list.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Eagerly waiting for your response!
I hope you have a good day ahead,
And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.
