When I print the top 2 inches is cut off. When I load standard 8.5 x 11 inch paper it asks, did you load Plain Paper, Letter? And I reply Yes. When I select Setup - Tools - Print Quality Report, the printed report is missing the top 2 inches. I've tried the hard reset (unplug it, wait, plug it in). No help.

Welcome to the HP Forums!
Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.
I reviewed your post and I understand that the top two inches of print are cutting off.
Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.
In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.
- When was the last time the printer was working fine?
- Are you the same issue when you make a copy?
- What is the operating system you are using?
- Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?
Meanwhile, I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps. (If using Windows)
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
- Select your HP Printer
- Select Uninstall
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
- In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
- Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
- Click on the “Drivers” tab
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
- Select Ok
- Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
- Close Devices and Printers
- Restart the PC
- Download and install the printer software from the below link.
- Connect the USB cable ONLY when prompted and follow the on-screen instructions.
If you are using Mac operating system I recommend you remove the printer and add the printer again and check if it helps.

Hello HP. I have tried the items you suggested. I tried the hard reset. I tried, from the printer itself,
settings / update the printer / check now
and got the message
The most current updates have been installed.
And I tried dropping and re-adding the printer from MacOs.
The problem remains.
Please note that the printer's OWN INTERNAL tests, like "print quality report",
have the top 2 inches cut off.
So the problem seems to be the printer, not the associated computer.

Thank you for the information.
I would like to know what the Mac OS version on your computer?
Meanwhile, I am sending you a private message with instructions please follow the steps and check if it helps.
Let me know how it goes.

Thank you for your note, suggesting I use the reset option.
My HP Envy 4520 printer does not have a reset option. Perhaps
you are thinking of a different model.
My 4520 has a Setup option, which contains:
Preferences, Tools, Power Handling, Network setup, Web Services, Printer Update
Within the Tools submenu are:
Clean cartridges, Align Printer, Clean page smears, Print status reports,
Print quality report, Print web access report, Network configuration report,
Restore factory defaults.
I did try all of the following: Clean cartridges, align printer, clean page smears,
and finally Restore factory defaults.
None of these helped.
The printer is not connected to any computer.
When I use the printer's own internal option, "Print quality report",
the top 2 inches are missing and there are about 2 inches of blank
at the bottom.
