In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.
- When was the last time the printer was working fine?
- Are you facing the same issue when you make a copy?
- What is the exact model for your printer?

Thanks for getting back to me.
The last time my printer was working properly it has never worked properly since I installed it from new, just over a year ago. The problems have been minor, until antil a couple of weeks when it just stopped printing in colour,.
The printer only prints in monochrome no matter what I do. Even if I change the settings to colour just before printing it will revert back to monochrome.
HP ENVY 4524 is this not specific enough?
Windows 10 64 bit
I have bought a new Monitor which is also from HP.
Yes I have been through the HP Help and that was not very helpful.
Thank you for trying to help out.
I had thought of just dumping it all and re-instaiiing it.

Well that didn't last long before usual service resumed. I am back to printing in monochrome only again.
Now the printer is giving me messages that it is in error state as well. I even tried to find out if I needed to change the setting on the driver from black amd white to colour. Only, I do not know properly how to do it. I think there might be something conflicting with the printer.

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Is the copy working with color?
I suggest you do a Hard Reset
(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Update the firmware for the printer using this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-envy-4520-all-in-one-printer-series/5447920/model/8900983/do...
Restart the printer.
Use this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-envy-4520-all-in-one-printer-series/5447920/model/8900983/do... for Print Driver Settings Guide.
Keep me posted, how it goes!

That has not made any difference what so ever!! It has just wasted black ink and three sheets of paper.
Would it be possible to tell me how to change the driver from monochrome to colour to see if that makes any difference? As I have no Idea how to do it.
