I have an HP ENVY 5000 All-in-One Printer. I have had the printer since 2020 (could be the issue?). Over the last 6 months, the printer has had an issue where it would show that it was offline and wouldn't print anything. The only way to fix it would be to unplug and then replug it back in. As of yesterday, I can't get anything to happen. At first, it wasn't even showing on my PC. I have uninstalled, reinstalled several times. Sometimes when re-installing, it says it can't communicate and I must try again. The times I do get it installed, when I try to print anything, it comes up with all kinds of different error messages, one of which says it is in an error state. Now the funny thing is, is with my HP Smart app, it says it is active, ready, but it can't get anything to print either. On top of that, when I go to the HP driver page and try to search to make sure I have the most up to date drivers, I searched using my serial number and it keeps telling me my serial number is invalid. Has planned obsolescence caused my printer to crash or is there a way to fix my printer? Thanks in advance for all help.

Hi @BJT5,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It's unfortunate to hear about the issues you're facing with your HP ENVY 5000 All-in-One Printer. There are several possible reasons for the problems you're encountering, and I'll outline some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issues.
Check Printer Connection:
- Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network. If it's a wireless connection, check the Wi-Fi settings on the printer and make sure it's connected to the correct network.
Power Cycle:
- Power off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes help resolve temporary issues.
Update Drivers:
- Visit the official HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer. Make sure you download the drivers specific to your printer model and operating system.
Firmware Update:
- Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer on the HP website. Firmware updates can address bugs and improve performance.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Ensure that your operating system is up to date with the latest Windows updates. Sometimes, compatibility issues can be resolved with system updates.
HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility from the official HP website. This tool can automatically diagnose and resolve printing problems.
Reinstall HP Smart App:
- Uninstall the HP Smart app, restart your computer, and then reinstall the app from the official source (e.g., Microsoft Store for Windows). Make sure you are using the latest version.
Check Printer Status:
- On the printer itself, check for any error messages or warnings. Make sure there are no paper jams or other physical issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
