HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My HP Envy 5055 printer seemed to be out of ink. I installed a brand new 65 black ink. It doesn't detect that I installed a new cartridge, like it usually does. I tried printing, still prints blank pages no matter what I try to print. I have done:

1. Cleaned the cartridges with distilled water and lint free cloth.

2. Reinstalled cartridges properly.

3. Cleaned Printheads using the HP Smart App over 3 times.

4. Ran a printer diagnostic which found no issues.

5. Talked to the AI bot and so.

Just spent 30 dollars on a cartridge and there's no way to get help or even return the cartridge and get my money back, horrible company.

Hi @jj579,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for reaching out, and I’m truly sorry you're experiencing this issue with your HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer. You've already done a great job with all the right troubleshooting steps, and I completely understand how frustrating it is, especially after spending money on a new cartridge.

Step-by-Step HP Support Solution

Step 1: Verify Cartridge Authenticity

Make sure the cartridge is:

  • Genuine HP (not refilled or third-party)
  • Still sealed properly before installation

You can use the HP Smart Tool to check if it's genuine.

Step 2: Hard Reset the Printer

Sometimes the internal ink sensors get stuck. Try this:

  1. Turn the printer ON
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back (while still ON)
  3. Wait 60 seconds
  4. Plug it back in and power ON

Then reinsert the cartridge and check if the printer now recognizes it.

Step 3: Try Printing a Print Quality Diagnostic Report

Use the printer's control panel or HP Smart to print a Test Page or Quality Diagnostic Page.

If that page also comes out blank, this confirms that:

  • The black cartridge is not dispensing ink, or
  • The printhead has a blockage

Step 4: Try Another Black Cartridge (if available)

If possible, try using:

  • Another known-working black HP 65 cartridge
  • Or swap with another HP printer that uses HP 65

If the new cartridge works, then the original cartridge is defective.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
