The printer makes a grinding noise when printing. It does print, and it does sound like it could die.
I followed on set of online instructions that worked for another user, but it didn't work for me.
It actually sounds like it needs lubricating.

A warm welcome to HP Support Community!
A grinding noise is typically caused due to paper jam, carriage jam, loose gears and rollers. Power resetting the printer, clearing any paper jams and cleaning the paper feed rollers may resolve the issue. Lets' try these steps:
1) Use the steps available here to clear any paper jams.
2) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector
3) Remove all of your ink cartridges from the printer and close the door
4) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)
5) Clean the paper feed rollers, refer to solution 3 from this document.
6) Plug the power cord back into the printer
7) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the ink cartridges.
Let me know how it goes!
