Hi, for some reason my printer will only print documents in grey scale (this is the same across all applications - MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF and browser), although it prints in colour when printing a test page from the diagnostic menu.

Both cartridges are genuine HP and brand new. I have removed and reinstalled to ensure there is no issue here.

Having seen a number of other people experience similar issue I have followed the advice on the HP community but to no avail. This includes:

1) Checking the colour printing options under the printing preferences window.  However, having followed the below method:

  1. Control Panel - Devices and Printers
  2. Selected the printer from the list of available printers
  3. Clicked the option that opens the Printer Preferences dialog box
  4. On the Preference window, clicked the Paper/Quality tab (no option for Colour/greyscale present)
  5. Clicked Advanced

I then got the following option:

Printer Advanced Menu.PNG

As you can see there is no reference to colour/greyscale.

I then tried...

2) Checking the firmware was up to date. However, when I downloaded the latest version, the staus showed the printer was already up to date.

The last option I tried was...

3) Removing all HP drivers/software from my pc and starting a clean install from the HP website.

Everything seemed to go fine up until the point I tried to print a colour document and found that the problem still remained.

I've been unable to fins any other options to try, so would appreciate any help you can provide.

Just in case it is useful, I'm connected wirelessly to my printer.

Thanks in advance for your assistance

Hi,

Try following below version of the HP Print and Scan Doctor Utility by selecting your printer:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

Be sure to restart your PC and allow the utility to complete the process, then check for any difference.

Try printing and check for any change, if the same remains try printing using the newly added print queue copy and check.

Thanks for all your help ShlomiL. That version of the HP Print and Scan Doctor Utility did the trick.

I'm assuming it's a different version then that available directly on the support pages, as having tried that one previously it reported everything as being fine.
