Although my HP Envy 5660 has been working well on Mac OS 10.11, yesterday it stopped printing pdf files. I have gone through the troubleshooting steps including re-installing the print driver software. I also have looked for a firmware update but have not found one.
The printer will make a noise as if it is going to print, but then nothing happens. The printer is connected to the network and I can print Word docs, internet pages, and other things--just not pdfs!
Please help.

For starters please uninstall adobe reader for mac and reinstall it and check again.

Thanks for your reply, David. Despite the fact that the problem I noted occurred with Preview (I rarely use Adobe Acrobat unless forced to by a publisher or in order to complete certain fillable forms that do not work in Preview), I tried your suggestion to uninstall and then reinstall Adobe Reader. And thankfully, that seems to have fixed the issue! Who knew? (Obviously you did!).
Thank you.
