My printer has stopped picking up the paper when I try to print. It says "Add Paper", but the paper tray has a good supply of print paper. It tries to pick up the paper three times and then I get an ORANGE Flashing Light on the side of the printer buttons. Has anyone been able to fix this problem? Or is this HP Envy a goner?

Hi @OldTC,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
There are several potential reasons why your HP Envy 6000 printer is not picking up paper. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.
Check the Paper and Paper Tray
Ensure the Paper is Properly Loaded:
- Make sure the paper is correctly loaded in the tray. It should be aligned and not overfilled.
- Use only clean, new, and wrinkle-free paper.
Check the Paper Tray:
- Ensure the paper tray is not damaged and is correctly inserted into the printer.
Adjust the Paper Guides:
- Adjust the paper guides in the tray to snugly fit the paper without bending it.
Clean the Paper Feed Rollers
Turn Off the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
Access the Rollers:
- Open the paper tray and locate the paper feed rollers inside the printer.
Clean the Rollers:
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the rollers. Roll them with your fingers to ensure all sides are cleaned.
- Allow the rollers to dry completely before reinserting the paper tray and plugging the printer back in.
Perform a Printer Reset
Turn Off the Printer:
- While the printer is on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
Plug Back In:
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the back of the printer.
- Turn on the printer and check if it picks up paper.
Check for Paper Jams
- Inspect for Paper Jams:
- Open all accessible parts of the printer and check for any stuck paper or debris.
- Carefully remove any obstructions.
Update Printer Firmware and Drivers
- Check for Updates:
- Visit the HP Support website and check if there are any firmware or driver updates available for your printer model.
- Install any available updates.
Check Printer Settings
- Printer Settings:
- Ensure the paper size and type settings in the printer software match the paper loaded in the tray.
By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and potentially fix the issue with your HP Envy 6000 printer not picking up paper.
I hope this helps.

I turned my Envy 6000 on its side and pulled out the paper tray. There is a tiny wheel on the bottom of the printer that pulls the paper from the tray, and I rubbed it (IE, cleaned it) all around with a microfiber towel. There must have been something on it, because when I tried to print after cleaning the wheel, the printer worked fine, and has continued to work. Fingers crossed...
