HP ENVY Photo 6220 All-in-One Printer

Hello,

I've had problems printing photos from my HP Envy Photo printer for a while. It constantly says 'out of paper', even though it isn't.

Can anyone help? It's out of warranty but in very good condition. I'm on Instant Ink.

Thank you

Hannah

Hi @hannah_jayne8,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Experiencing issues with your printer can be frustrating, especially when it's not working as expected. If your HP Envy Photo 6220 series printer is giving you the "out of paper" error message when there is paper in the tray, there could be several reasons causing this problem. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Check Paper Placement: Make sure the paper is loaded correctly in the paper tray. Ensure that the paper guides are adjusted snugly against the paper stack, preventing the paper from shifting.
  • Paper Type and Size Settings: Confirm that the printer settings match the type and size of the paper you're using. Sometimes, mismatched settings can cause the printer to think there's no paper.
  • Paper Tray Sensor: There might be a sensor in the paper tray area that detects the presence of paper. It's possible that this sensor is malfunctioning. Gently check for any debris or foreign objects that might be blocking the sensor.
  • Paper Thickness Lever: Some printers have a lever or slider to adjust for different paper thicknesses. Make sure this lever is set correctly for the type of paper you're using.
  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute or two, and then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear minor glitches in the printer's system.
  • Update Firmware and Drivers: Make sure your printer's firmware and drivers are up to date. Sometimes, outdated software can cause communication issues and errors.
  • Clean the Rollers: Over time, paper dust and debris can accumulate on the rollers, causing paper feed problems. Gently clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth and a small amount of water if necessary.
  • Reset the Printer: Check your printer's manual for instructions on performing a factory reset. This can help resolve any internal software issues causing the error.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
