One issue is I keep getting a message that the alignment failed.
I have put in NEW both color and black cartridges and it still won't align and the print is poor quality. I have tried cleaning the heads multiple times, still bad print quality and still will not align. I've taken the cartridges out, one at a time and cleaned the cartridges. Other than throwing this thing in the garbage.....what can I do? How would I know if the ink cartridges are junk?

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.
If you have your old set of ink cartridges, do insert that and check if you get the error message. Also, are you able to copy?
Let's reset the Printer here as well:
- Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
If the issue still persists, please try to clean the cartridges from the Printer:
- On the control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup
icon.
- Swipe up on the display, and then touch Printer Maintenance.
- Touch Clean Cartridges, and then touch Continue.
- A Print Quality Diagnostic page prints.
- Examine the Print Quality Diagnostic page.
- If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Clean Again to continue the next level of cleaning. Repeat these steps for the third cleaning stage, if necessary.
