HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw

Hi Guys,

maybe somebody can help me. I want to perform a hard factory reset on my printer HP Laser Jet MFP M283fdw. A trick with keeping the finger on the printer's screen during turning it on, doesn't work for me. Any other solution?

Hi @SirJudzin

Welcome to the HP support community.

To perform a factory reset on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw, there isn't a simple method like holding your finger on the touchscreen during startup. However, you can reset the printer back to its factory settings through the Control Panel. Here’s how you can do it:

Factory Reset via Printer's Control Panel:

Turn on the Printer: Make sure the printer is powered on.

Access the Menu:

  • On the printer’s home screen, tap the gear icon (settings) at the top right corner.

Navigate to "Printer Maintenance":

  • From the Settings menu, scroll down and tap on "Printer Maintenance".

Select "Restore":

  • In the Printer Maintenance menu, tap on "Restore" or "Restore Factory Defaults" (depending on the model).

Confirm Reset:

  • Follow the on-screen instructions and confirm the reset to restore the printer to its original factory settings.

Wait for the Reset: The printer will restart and reset its settings to factory defaults, including network settings, custom configurations, etc.

Alternative Method: Resetting Network Settings (if needed)

If you're specifically trying to reset the network settings (for example, if you've forgotten the Wi-Fi credentials), you can also reset just the network settings:

Go to the Control Panel: Tap the gear icon (settings).

Navigate to "Network Setup":

  • Tap "Network", and then tap "Restore Network Defaults".

Confirm: Confirm the reset, and the printer will reset just the network settings (Wi-Fi, wired network, etc.), but leave other settings intact.

Reset via HP Web Interface (Embedded Web Server)

Find the Printer's IP Address:

  • On the printer, tap the Wireless icon (Wi-Fi) or check the network status page to find the IP address of your printer.

Access the EWS Page:

  • Open a web browser on your computer.
  • Type the printer's IP address into the browser’s address bar and hit Enter.

Login (if required):

  • If prompted, log in using the default admin credentials. These are usually:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: 123456 (if not changed).

Restore Defaults:

  • In the EWS interface, go to the Settings tab.
  • Look for "Restore Defaults" or a similar option.
  • Click on it to reset the printer to its factory settings.

Confirm and Reset:

  • Follow the instructions to confirm and initiate the reset.

Important Notes:

  • Resetting the printer will erase any custom settings like network configurations, fax settings, and other personalized options.
  • After performing a factory reset, you’ll need to reconfigure the printer, including setting up Wi-Fi, IP address, and any other customizations you had previously made.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
