Hi, I’m having an issue with my HP LaserJet M209dwe and was hoping someone here might have a workaround. The printer has become completely unresponsive and is stuck in what looks like a fatal boot loop. The behaviour is almost identical to the issues described in these two threads:

Every time I turn it on, the front bar pulses green for a few seconds, there is a brief flicker of orange, it returns to green for about 10-20 seconds, and then it settles into a persistent flashing orange light. Once it hits that orange state, the entire control panel is dead - all buttons except the power button stop working.

I’ve tried a long list of troubleshooting steps to fix this:

  • I’ve done multiple hard power resets, leaving it unplugged for over a minute and plugging it directly into the wall outlet.

  • I attempted a reset by holding the Wireless and Cancel buttons during boot, and the printer does reset and shows a blinking wifi light until the flashing orange bar replaces the green light, at which point the wifi light goes back off. The printer does not appear on HP Smart as online or appear when I try to link a new device.

  • I pressed the resume button for ~ 30 seconds after switching on, which causes all the control panel lights to flash and the printer to restart, but the issue is still present after it restarts.
  • I’ve checked for jams and even tried starting it with the toner removed to see if it was a supply chip error, but the flashing orange persists.

  • I uncovered the USB port and tried to run the HP Firmware Updater on my Mac. The utility finds the printer, but it gives me an error saying the "Device is in error state and cannot be reflashed."

  • I also tried connecting via Ethernet to see if it just needed to "check in" with the HP+ service, but while the port lights are active, the printer remains locked and invisible to the HP Smart app.

Can someone advise if there is a way to fix this issue, or if my printer is dead? Unfortunately, the warranty has expired on it.
