HP LaserJet MFP M140we Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer has been working properly from October 2022 until recently. I am using the printer occasionally for domestic/personal purposes and most of the time it is switched off. Recently I have noticed the " ! " flushing on the printer device and therefore I checked the status of my device in my HP printer Account. There it stated that  the  "status  needs attention" without any more details. I also noted that the ink level showing int the Account was at 0 level which was strange because I had recently  inserted  a new HP ink cassette. After a few days my printer stopped printing. I have tried to resolve the problem by advising HP support ( e.g. to reset printer by pressing "wi-fi button" and " X button" simultaneously"  but  without any success. I have realised  that I could remove the printer from both my HP Account and the HP Smart application and start from scratch. Unfortunately this expectation did not happen and after the removal I can not re-install HP smart and thus my printer.

Hi @AchilTheo ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for trying a few troubleshooting steps, but there are a few more things you can try to resolve the issue with your HP LaserJet MFP M140we printer. Here's a step-by-step guide:

Check Printer Connection:

  • Make sure the printer is properly connected to your computer via USB or through a stable Wi-Fi connection.
  • Ensure that there are no loose cables, and if you are using a wireless connection, make sure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.

Check Ink Cartridge:

  • Double-check that the ink cartridge is correctly inserted and seated in its place.
  • Remove and reinsert the ink cartridge to ensure it is properly installed.
  • Confirm that you are using a genuine HP ink cartridge and that it is not expired.

Restart Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in.
  • Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Open the printer cover and check for any paper jams or obstructions.
  • If there are any paper jams, carefully remove the jammed paper.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Visit the HP support website and check for any firmware updates for your printer model.
  • If updates are available, follow the instructions to update the firmware.

Reinstall HP Smart:

  • Uninstall the HP Smart application from your computer.
  • Download the latest version of HP Smart from the official HP website and reinstall it.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your printer again.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your Windows 10 operating system is up to date with the latest updates.
  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and click on "Check for updates."

HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, a diagnostic tool provided by HP to troubleshoot printing issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
