@Jeremias333, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding error code 11 on your HP LaserJet MFP M234sdwe Printer!

Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.

A) Perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults and let me know if that resolves the issue.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply.

I followed all the steps and even updated the printer firmware but the problem remains - error 11.
When I insert the old cartridge the printer recognizes it but not the new one.

Thank you for your response @Jeremias333
Since the old cartridge is recognized but the new Instant Ink cartridge isn't, the issue likely lies with the new cartridge itself or how the printer is validating it.
Clean Cartridge Chip & Contacts:

  • Gently clean the metal contacts on the new cartridge using a lint-free cloth with isopropyl alcohol.
  • Also clean the corresponding contacts inside the printer where the cartridge is inserted.

Reinsert the Cartridge Properly:

  • Turn off the printer, remove the cartridge, and wait 5 minutes before reinserting it. Ensure it clicks firmly into place.

Check for Blocked Sensors or Dust:

  • Open the printer and inspect the cartridge slot for any debris or sensor blockages.

Try Another Cartridge (If Available):

  • If you have another Instant Ink cartridge, test it to confirm whether the issue is with the cartridge or the printer.

Reset Printer Again (Hard Reset):

  • Unplug the power cord while the printer is ON.
  • Wait 2-3 minutes before plugging it back in.
  • Power it on and try inserting the cartridge again.
