I bought this multifunction printer less than 2 months ago and it has been a hassle since day1 setup.
Now the scanner seems to be not working with either the HP Smart, HP Easy scan or native image capture . I have been with HP support for hours and their advanced team was supposed to call me back after we did all the usual tests. A day later, no call from the advanced team and the next regular technician again goes through all the usual tests and another hour of time wasted then points the finger at Apple macOS Big Sur.
On the native scanner (via the image capture utility), it gives a "Failed to open a connection to the device (-21345)" error. On HP smart, it says scanner not detected.
We have done the following fixes with no luck.
1. Power cycled the printer
2. Updated firmware
3. Deleted printer from HP smart and reinstalled.
4. Deleted printer from 'printers and scanners' and added again . It was giving the "fax.backend will damage your computer" . I saw a fix for this to delete /library/printers/hp folder so tried that and that error went away but still not working.
5. reset the printer to factory defaults and did set up again.
6. restarted macbook
As a note, after a few attempts both printer and scanner are working from my iPhone 8 Plus HP smart app and printing is working from HP smart and native OS printer app but not the scanner.
