@BeemerBiker,
Thanks again for all your suggestions.
I was very confident the install was not corrupted, and as I had stated in my initial post "After Microsoft installed the latest windows update I cannot print to my HP LaserJet Pro 400 Printer M401dne" thus I have been mor focused on what Microsoft Update was causing my issues as the printer was not the only issue...
As I continued to get frustrated, I decided to use try a Microsoft chat help and during the discovery process I found the issue to be strangely resolved as I was able to successfully re-install the HP drivers for my HP LaserJet Pro (M401dne) Printer.
The more I have pondered this, my guess is the latest round of Microsoft updates must have triggered what I would class as a re-index of my UAC profile??? Regardless everything is back up and working!

Remove the old driver by running the following app from the command line
printui /s |
reinstall the full features software and then search for the printer again
Full feature software Mar 2021

Your other option would be to use the HP Universal Printer Driver.

I am guessing the install got corrupted and the driver needs to be uninstalled. Usually when an install is corrupted, the "uninstaller" does not work either.
Download the free uninstaller revo
https://www.revouninstaller.com/revo-uninstaller-free-download/
Uninstall any HP printer drivers using REVO. Be sure to select the advanced scan and delete any registery items
You have to click "select all" and then click on "delete" to clean out all the HP printer items.
Then try reinstalling the driver.
When was the last time you ran the windows scan disk?
You might want to check for any problems in the disk drive
