We have a problem with a new LaserJet Pro M404dn not recovering from sleep and/or automatic shutdown.
We have selected the "Disable Shutdown when ports are active" option and our network monitoring is continuously pinging the printer every 5 minutes.
The printer is connected via the Ethernet port to a medical site network that has other devices running 24/7.
After a day or so, the printer's Ethernet interface stops replying to pings.
The display shows "Sleep mode is on" and the power button light is on.
The printer has effectively dropped off the network.
Getting it going again usually involves turning the printer off and on at the wall outlet.
Using the front panel power button doesn't clear the problem.
I upgraded the firmware to version MOGAMIXXXN002.2014A.00, but that has not resolved the problem.
We are using a reservation on a Windows DHCP server to set the IPV4 address.
I am starting to think this is a faulty printer.
I have found some other posts describing similar problems with other HP printers, but so far nothing that resolves the problems with this printer.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you, Nigel

Two possible solutions:
1. make sure that the printer driver is communicating on a TCP/IP port and not a WSD port/
2. Turn off SNMP Status communication on the driver

Thanks for the suggestions.
Things are not clear.
We brought the printer back to our premises and it hasn't dropped off the network during 4 days of testing.
This afternoon we've taken it back to the client's network.
Similar arrangement as before with pinging every 5 minutes.
We'll see what happens.
