My Laserjet MFP 4301 worked fine. Not sure if Windows update or something else has caused it but now my MS system sees the printer, prints a test page & show idle. But when I try to print, i get an error message. I have installed/reinstalled the printer. I have updated adobe. I have updated Word. The Print and Scan doctor thinks everything is fine. The virtual assistant put me into a useless loop. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi @erb1111
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’re dealing with a frustrating issue, especially when it comes to printer errors that don’t seem to resolve even with troubleshooting. Here are a few things to try when you're getting error messages after Windows updates or changes that might have disrupted the printer's functionality:
1. Check the Printer Queue:
- Sometimes, print jobs get stuck in the queue, and it causes errors when you try to print.
- Go to Devices and Printers on your Windows system, right-click your printer, and select See what's printing.
- If you see any jobs stuck there, cancel or delete them and try printing again.
2. Run the Printer Troubleshooter Again:
- Even if the Printer and Scan Doctor says everything is fine, it’s worth running it a couple more times. You might want to reset the printer settings using the troubleshooter to clear out any small issues.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Printer, and follow the prompts again to see if anything new shows up.
3. Reset the Printer Spooler Service:
- Sometimes, the printer spooler service (which manages print jobs) gets stuck or corrupted.
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- In the Services window, scroll down to Print Spooler.
- Right-click on Print Spooler, then choose Restart. This will reset the print spooler and may clear out any stuck print jobs or temporary issues.
4. Check for Windows Update Issues:
- Sometimes, Windows updates can break printer drivers or create conflicts. Since you suspect a Windows update may have caused this, try checking if there were any recent updates that might have affected printing:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > View Update History.
- If you see any updates that were installed around the same time the issue started, try uninstalling them and restarting your computer to see if that resolves the issue.
5. Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Even though you've reinstalled the printer, sometimes the driver might still be corrupted or outdated.
- Uninstall the Printer Driver: Go to Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select Remove Device. Then, go to Device Manager and uninstall the printer driver under the Printers section.
- Reinstall: After uninstalling the driver, download the latest drivers for your HP LaserJet MFP4301 from the official HP website and reinstall them. Ensure you're installing the correct version (either 32-bit or 64-bit).
6. Check Network Connection (for network printers):
- If your printer is connected over the network (Wi-Fi or Ethernet), ensure it is properly connected to the same network as your computer.
- You can try printing a Network Configuration Page directly from your printer to ensure it's connected to the right network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
