Hi folks - my printer stopped working. Upon sending a print job from my iPhone I get an error message. The app tells me that there is an issue with my account. But my account is just fine, and I do not have any notifications. The !-lamp on the printer is blinking 4 times in 3 seconds.

Any ideas for solving this are very welcome. Thanks in advance.

Hi @DutchMike28,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand how frustrating it can be when your printer suddenly stops working, especially when everything seems fine with your account. Let’s work through this together to find a solution.

  • Have you recently made any changes to your printer settings, Wi-Fi network, or HP account?
  • Are you able to print from another device, such as a computer or tablet?
  • Have you tried restarting both your printer and iPhone to see if the issue persists?

Are you enrolled in the instant ink program?

It seems like you've encountered an issue with your HP LaserJet MFP M140w printer related to your HP account, and despite your efforts, the problem persists. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Let's try these steps.

Check HP Account:

  • Make sure you're using the correct credentials for your HP account.
  • Verify that your HP account is in good standing and there are no issues or restrictions on it.

Update HP Smart App:

  • Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on your device. If not, update the app to the latest version.

Restart Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in. Turn the printer on and check if the issue persists.

Remove and Re-Add Printer:

  • Remove the printer from the HP Smart app and then re-add it.
  • Open the HP Smart app, go to the printer settings, and remove the printer. Then, follow the app's instructions to add the printer again.

Reset Printer Settings:

  • On the printer, navigate to the settings menu.
  • Look for an option to reset or restore the printer to factory settings. Perform the reset and reconfigure the printer settings.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure that the printer is connected to the same network as your device.
  • Verify that the Wi-Fi signal is strong and stable.

Update Firmware:

  • Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer on the HP support website. If yes, download and install the latest firmware by selecting your current OS. Click here

Check Printer Status and Error Codes:

  • The blinking “!” lamp indicates a specific issue. On the HP M140we, four blinks in three seconds may indicate a connection or account-related issue. Check the printer display or HP Smart app for detailed error messages.

Verify HP Account and Printer Connection:

  • Sign out and sign back into the HP Smart app on your iPhone. Ensure the printer is still listed under your account and connected correctly.

Restart Printer and Network:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and restart.
  • Restart your Wi-Fi router and ensure the printer is connected to the correct network.

Reset Printer Connection:

  • Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for 5 seconds to reset the wireless settings, then re-add the printer via the HP Smart app.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Open the HP Smart app, go to Printer Settings, and check for any available firmware updates. Installing updates may resolve account-related issues.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
