HP LaserJet MFP M28W
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey,

I have a problem with my HP LaserJet MFP M28W printer. When plugged into the computer it displays in my PC as HP rbx-load. I can't print or do anything - nothing appears on the display. I suspect that there is a firmware corruption.

Is there any way to reset the printer, along with the instructions? I would be grateful.

Thanks for help

Hi @diazka,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP LaserJet MFP M28W printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue

  • Have you made any changes post that this issue raised
  • Do you see any lights blinking on the control panel of the printer
  • Have you observed ant error code on the display
Is your printer connected to WIFI or Wired

    check for connectivity

1.) Are the printer and PC/ Phone connected to the same network?

2.) Is your router dual-band enabled i.e., both 2.4GHz and 5GHz? If yes, make sure the dual-band has different SSIDs for 2.4G and 5G networks.

3.) What is the distance between the router and the printer? The recommended distance for a stable connection is 9-12ft.

4.) Is there a WPS push button on the router?

5.) What's the device you are printing from - Mac/ PC/ Android/ iOS?

6.) What's the model name of the printer?

Let's try resetting the printer and check once

1) Take out the cartridges.

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Wait for 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Update the printer firmware

Hi, @Gaya1239

There was a loss of power during the firmware update. There is only a toner startup sound when turned on. The screen is black and nothing is displayed, so there is no error code. The printer is connected directly to the computer and recognized as rbx-load.

1-4) The printer is not connected to a Wi-Fi network.
5) PC.
6) HP LaserJet MFP M28W.

Reset unfortunately does not work.

It is also impossible to update the firmware, because the printer is not detected by the system as a printer (specific model), but as rbx-load.

Is it possible to fix this problem? Thanks for your help
