Hello All,

I have an HP MFP 477fdn with an issue that is absolutely driving me up a wall!  All of the prints from this printing are coming out solid dark grey from top to bottom-  lettering and images are faintly visible in the background of the print (I've attached a screenshot of one of the prints below).  I've spent considerable time troubleshooting the issue and have gotten no where. Here is everything I have tried so far:

- replaced every toner cartridge in the printer. Have tried both OEM and 3rd party black toner cartridges.

-ran every self cleaning and calibration page that the printer offers

-replaced the high voltage power supply/ engine control board

-replaced the primary transfer belt and the transfer roller

-verified that the metal static discharge flags/flaps that touch the toner cartridges are clean, intact and in the correct position

I've also spent consider time googling the issue and searching various forums, but information on this particular printer model is extremely sparse.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice that you can render!

Best regards,

Trevor M.

This is typically caused by poor connection between the drum contact on the black cartridge. These are located on the left side of the cartridge cavity. There is one set for each cartridge so there should be 4 identical sets of contacts.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking something along these lines myself. As I mentioned in my initial post, I checked the drum contact flags (I referred to them as the static discharge flags) and they appear to be clean and in good condition. Is there anything in particular I should look at with these contacts/ flags?    Also, I will try to post a decent picture of the contacts/flags in question so you can see what I am seeing.

Thanks again!

Just to confirm the contact I am referring to is the small paper clip like metal at the bottom. I have seen them become detached from the board on the other side of the cavity wall, but removal os side panel is required to confirm that.

We're on the same page then :).  I've already removed the side panel and looked at that connection when before I swapped the HVPS- everything looks solid to me, but maybe I am missing something? Below is a picture of that area of the printer (I highlighted where the flag/ contact connects).

Below is a picture of the area under the HVPS/ engine control board. From what I can see, the static discharge wires are intact and should be making good contact with the HVPS. Am I overlooking something here? If not, are there other potential causes for this problem that are not related to static discharge?

Thanks again!
