That really sucks. This should not be that big of a problem. It seems that every answer to this problem is to reload the drivers etc. and that simply doesn't work. I haven't seen success with this issue anywhere on the forum. I may have to return mine too.

Today I got my printer to print color from all 3 remote computers(wireless). I hooked up to live chat and the tech had me working in few minutes. It required remote access ( I don't like) but the fix was quick and painless. He added a printer using the ip address of the printer and the printing preferences then had the color option. The network printer needs to remain on the computer for scanning purposes. I should have done this 3 days ago and it didn't cost anything.

Pulling my hair out with the same problem.  No color option whatsoever.  Uninstalled and reinstalled causing me to lose half a day of sanity.  But I think I found the solution!  Go the hp download page https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-3830-all-in-one-printer-series/7172321...  and assuming you've downloaded the full version of the software and the recommended driver, click on "Software-ePrint" in light blue.  Download that thing!  It's called ePrint + Jet Advantage. It will take a minute to sign into HP and verify you have an account, but now I have the color option in "Paper Quality" when I try and print a document.  And it worked!!  Jet Advantage automatically became my default option when printing.  There may be an added perk of keeping my documents secure while they're in queue.  I really don't care as long as I have color.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Do you have the same issue as above? if yes, and if you're on Windows Operating System, try these steps:

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

I tried this option, downloading this:

Yes, it does give you back the COLOR print option, but there is no option (we've always had!) to print various qualities (draft/normal/best). How can software go backwards in quality and options??? This is so frustrating!!

And, also there are more hoops to jump through when you go to print, note something I want for myself, using a non-network printer. I guess I'll just my wireless print option on my printer and go back to square one. 😞

HP - You've been in business for so many years, is it too much to ask for YOU to fix this printing problem????, rather than asking your customers to tech our problems??? Where is the customer service you used to provide??

Hi Betty0610,

Thank you for the info and steps you provided. If you are able, it would be helpful if you would go through those steps and make changes so they actually match Windows 10, it would be great for those of us having so many problems with our HP Printers.  It's more difficult for me being I have an HP (Z-Workstation) computer, so when I go into system directories, it's challenging to know which HP files are associated with my computer, and which are for this printer.

Providing options other than the Jet print thing would be great, I assume many people like myself, don't want to have their print files uploaded to print through the internet.

Thank you, Debbie
