HP OfficeJet 4650
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My out-of-warranty HP OfficeJet 4650 printer will not shut off when I press the power button. (Nor can I I print anything with it.) There is a blank blue display in the display window. When I send print jobs, I get "Printer is offline." When I unplug the printer, the blank display window goes dark. And when I plug back in, it lights up, but is still just a blank blue screen. I would think the proper behavior is that when I plug the printer in, I would then have to press the power button for the display window to light up. But instead, it lights up as soon as I plug the printer in.

I'm guessing the problem is a malfunctioning power button, and I've found instructions for replacing it (though the instructions don't say how to actually get a replacement switch. I think the part number is FOV63-80092-A).

I've done all the suggested remedies, like unplugging from the printer and from the wall; recycling the router, while doing so.

Can anyone think of something to try before ordering a new power switch (plus a T6 Torx screwdriver, which I don't think I have)? I'd hate to go through the ordering, waiting, and replacing and then find the switch wasn't the problem.

Since I'm out of warranty, is there a place I can bring the printer in to fix (in the Boston area)? I like the printer, and so would like to keep it, if it's not too expensive to have fixed.

Following up on my original post, I see that when I try to reconnect the printer via wifi, HP Smart tells me "The HP OfficeJet 4650 series must be turned on to add it to HP Smart." So, even though the display window is lit up (though a blank blue), I guess the printer is not actually turned on. And, as I say, pressing the power button does nothing; the only way to make the display lighting darken is to unplug the printer. Is there a way, besides replacing the power button, to make the printer turn on?

Thanks Betty,

I guess the nearest Service Center to me is in Somerville, New Jersey, and I'm in Boston. So that's not convenient. Will probably get a new printer, but not an HP.
