Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi.

After replacing the black ink cartridge, the warning light, the cartridge light for black and the operating light flash simultaneously. The black ink cartridge is a verified original HP ink cartridge. When the printer is switched on, an error message is displayed: Problem with the printer or the ink system. Please switch the printer off and on again. ... I went through all the known troubleshooting steps. I also tried KrazyToad's suggested solution for a similar problem. But the flashing lights remain.
When I checked the fill level of the new, inserted HP cartridge with the HP 7110 Toolbox, the cartridge is recognised as full but is marked with a cross. If the fill level check is repeated, a low fill level is displayed. The cross mark remains. The problem occurs with both new 932xl and 932 cartridges. It is impossible  to print any page or perform any service.

I have also uninstalled the printer and its software and then set everything up again.

However, the warning light, the cartridge light for black and the operating light blink and blink and blink...

I need some help. Please.

Hi @artifactum,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet 7110 is showing warning lights and error messages after replacing the black ink cartridge, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:

Step 1: Verify Cartridge Authenticity

Even if the cartridge is a verified original, it’s worth double-checking.

  1. Check Cartridge Packaging: Ensure the packaging has the HP hologram.
  2. Inspect Cartridge: Look for any signs of damage or defects.

Step 2: Clean the Cartridge Contacts

Sometimes, dirt or residue on the cartridge contacts can cause issues.

  1. Turn Off Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Remove Cartridge: Open the printer and remove the black ink cartridge.
  3. Clean Contacts: Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and in the printer.
  4. Reinsert Cartridge: Let the contacts dry for a few minutes, then reinsert the cartridge.
  5. Turn On Printer: Plug in the printer and turn it on.

Step 3: Reset the Printer

Resetting the printer can sometimes resolve cartridge recognition issues.

  1. Turn Off Printer: Press the power button to turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug Printer: Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait: Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect and Turn On: Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Step 4: Update Printer Firmware

Ensure your printer firmware is up to date.

  1. Check for Updates: Go to the HP Support website and search for firmware updates for your printer model.
  2. Download and Install: Follow the instructions to download and install any available firmware updates.

Step 5: Check for Blockages or Obstructions

Ensure there are no blockages or obstructions in the cartridge area.

  1. Turn Off Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Inspect Cartridge Area: Open the printer and inspect the cartridge area for any obstructions.
  3. Remove Obstructions: Carefully remove any obstructions if found.

Step 6: Try Another Cartridge

It’s possible that the new cartridge is defective.

  1. Use a Different Cartridge: If you have another black cartridge (either 932 or 932xl), try inserting it into the printer.
  2. Check for Errors: See if the error persists with a different cartridge.

Step 7: Perform a Semi-Full Reset

A semi-full reset can reset the printer to its factory defaults.

  1. Turn Off Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Press and Hold Buttons: Press and hold the # and 6 buttons on the printer.
  3. Turn On Printer: While holding the buttons, plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  4. Release Buttons: Release the buttons when the printer begins to initialize.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Rachel571,

thank you very much for your reply. I followed your instruction. However, the blinking pattern persists.

Additionally, I tried this:

(1) all cartridges removed; upper door closed: the power light stops blinking, cartridge light and alert light blink;

(2) printer disconnected from power supply for some minutes;

(3) connection restored;

(4) new black HP cartridge inserted; upper door closed: blinking black cartridge light goes out;

(5) new yellow HP cartridge inserted; upper door closed: blinking yellow cartridge light goes out;

(6) new cyan HP cartridge inserted; upper door closed: blinking cyan cartridge light goes out, just the magenta cartridge light and the warning light flash;

(7) new magenta HP cartridge inserted; upper door closed: blinking magenta cartridge light goes out, but power light, black cartridge light and alert light start flashing simultaneously;

(8) magenta HP cartridge removed; upper door closed: power light and black cartridge light go out, magenta cartridge light and alert light start flashing simultaneously.

Regardless of the order in which the ink cartridges are inserted, the power light indicator, the alert light and the indicator for the black cartridge flash after the fourth cartridge has been inserted.

I was wondering if it might be possible that a PDF file sent for printing caused the error. I downloaded the file from a municipal archive's homepage. ... I uploaded this pdf to VirusTotal. When running the file in the sandbox, MITRA signatures and dropped files were found. Scanning the spoolsv.exe file with VirusTotal revealed the following (excerpts):

Screenshot 2024-07-13 at 07-42-12 VirusTotal - File - abc2c4cd2a5de2fd6a2fb472b47517cfbcaee6138f4e52c68c042100db17574b.pngScreenshot 2024-07-13 at 07-44-56 VirusTotal - File - abc2c4cd2a5de2fd6a2fb472b47517cfbcaee6138f4e52c68c042100db17574b.png

But I cannot interpret the results (I don't know what to do).
