We have the same problem for an HP Officejet Pro 7720.  We just plugged in the ink our stationery supplier sent us, the cartridge is specified for the correct printer.  None of the "fixes" work, and HP seem to avoid being honest from the get-go that they have unilaterally decided that you cant decide which ink you can use on your own printer!

What right do HP have to stop us from deciding what ink we use?  As a buyer I feel misled, because nowhere did it say that the printer would only work with HP ink, "recommended" is not fair warning.  If I knew the printer would only work with overpriced HP ink I would not have bought it.

HP, I need you to provide a fix for this please, or we will not be buying HP printers for our business or home use ever again.  And I will personally warn off every single person I  come across who is considering buying an HP printer.

This is very cunning and dishonest behaviour by HP.  I've had lots of HP products in the past and I will vote with my wallet now. HP are no longer in the equation for my electronics purchases. My business owns more than a dozen HP PCs and printers. We won't even consider HP as an option anymore so i hope HP get the message, this is a false economy for you. My future value to HP was potentially thousands, but now it is zero.  Self inflicted wound.

On this device, my warranty says the use of non-HP  cartridge does not affect my warranty so this device is going back on warranty claim. The only thing preventing it from working is HP firmware.
