I just received a new HP OfficeJet Pro.  I elected not to get Instant Ink., but everytime I go to Print something, I get an Instant Ink Pop Up.  I read a few community postings, but could find nothing that works for my printer/OS.  Can someone advise me on how to turn off these pop ups?

Thank you in advance for your help ...

Based upon a suggestion from WalkerSoMe, I followed these instructions ...

Here are some steps to remove the auto pop-up from instant ink:

  • Open the C:\Program Files\HP\HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 series\ folder
  • Find the “config” file and open it with note pad
  • Find this line of code: “OfferAutoContinue=Yes”
  • Change the yes to no: “OfferAutoContinue=No”
  • Save the new config file to your desk top
  • Drag and drop the config file from your desktop to C:\Program Files\HP\HP OfficeJet 4650 series\ folder (or your printer folder)
  • If you are asked if you want to replace the old file with the new file say yes

After doing so, I printed a few pages (separate prints) and in all cases THERE WERE NO POPUPS!  The problem appears to be solved.

@chomowitz,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!

I understand that you keep getting pop-ups to enrol your printer into the instant ink program..

Don't worry as I have a few steps that should help fix this issue.

If you have not enrolled to the instant ink programs, please follow the steps provided below:

To remove Web Services using the printer control panel

1. From the top of the screen, touch or swipe down the tab to open the Dashboard, touch ( HP ePrint ),

and then touch (Web Services Settings).

2. Touch Remove Web Services.

PS: The steps might be slightly different on you printer since it is different on certain printer models. But the idea is the same. HP Printers - Turning Off Web Services

For more details, please follow the User guide of your printer.

I hope these steps should do the trick. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than glad to assist you.

If they did, that’s awesome!

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!

Good Luck.

First ... I made an error in the title of this post ... I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 6978.  Sorry for the error.

Re: the suggestion to turn webservices off ... I have turned webservices off, but when I print, the instant ink pop up still shows up.  In the Printer Home Page (EWS), it says Web Services are disabled.

I appreciate your suggestion, but it did not eliminate the Instant Ink Window popping up when I print.  Any further suggestions will be appreciated as that pop up is irritating to the point that I may consider returning the printer.

Hi @chomowitz

Since @Jeet_singh is not in the office, I will take this forward.

1: Do you remember enrolling this printer with HP Instant Ink Subscription before?

2: Can you share a picture of this message that shows up on your printer?

Let us know.

Cheers

Even though I elected not to subscribe to Instant Ink, I may have created an instant ink account (with Instant Ink declined).

Here is piicture of the Instant Ink Popup I get everytime I print.

Thanks for your consideration ...
