Hello
since few weeks my printer is often "offline". It's on the second floor, so i can't check it easily. When i check, the printer is stuck in "firmware download error". Click again or cancel.
The download go up to 100% then i get this error. The printer stays as is, until I reboot or cancel. I tried to wire it instead of wifi setup, same issue, firmware stuck.
Any idea ? i tried to disable the AutoUpdate, but the feature is disabled by the person who perfomed the setup. I disabled Web services, but same issue.
So every time i need to print, i have to first reboot the printer, which is harrassing.
THanks a lot
Arno

Hi @TiArno,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 printer is frequently going offline and getting stuck in a "firmware download error" loop, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.
- Restart the printer: Power off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in. Power it on and check if the issue persists.
- Clear print queue: On your computer, go to the "Devices and Printers" or "Printers & Scanners" settings. Locate your OfficeJet Pro 8020 printer, right-click on it, and select "See what's printing." In the print queue window, click on "Printer" at the top and select "Cancel All Documents." This will clear any pending print jobs that might be causing the issue.
- Update printer firmware manually: If the printer is stuck in a firmware download loop, it's possible that the firmware update process got interrupted or corrupted. You can try updating the firmware manually using the HP Smart app or the HP Support website. Visit the HP support page for your printer model, download the latest firmware update file, and follow the instructions provided to install it on the printer.
- Reset network settings: On the printer's control panel, navigate to the network settings or wireless setup menu. Look for options like "Reset Network Settings" or "Restore Defaults." Select the appropriate option to reset the printer's network settings back to factory defaults. Afterward, set up the printer on your Wi-Fi network again or connect it via a wired connection.
- Factory reset the printer: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you can try performing a factory reset on your OfficeJet Pro 8020 printer. Keep in mind that this will erase any personalized settings or configurations you have set on the printer. Refer to the printer's user manual or visit the HP support website for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
