Microsoft Windows XP

Hi. I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8610. I replaced the black cartridge because it indicated that black ink is depleted. After replacing the black ink cartridge, I still wasn't able to print because the next error is that, the cyan ink cartridge is depleted as well. It's kinda weird because before I replaced the black ink cartridge, the colored ink were fine, but after replacing the black cartridge, suddenly cyan ink cartridge is depleted. I hope you can help me.

Hi,

Thanks for using the forum.

Have you tried replacing the Cyan cartridge? It may be that as the black is depleted, cyan is near depletion as well and hence that message.

Hope that helps.

My printer is not printing after replacing the black cartridge, without replacing the other depleted cartridge.  Can I at least print with the black cartridge only?

HP Recommended

No, I want to print in black only for now.

Hi, I too am becoming suspicous regarding the 8610 and wonder if this is a money making scheme.

HP original ink is expensive, yet we would all use it if the price was competitive with compatible cartridges. That said, I bought an HP high capacity black cartridge as I received a warning that it was was running low and replaced it when it said depleted.

At the time the other colours were low, but not depleted.

I inserted the black cartridge, only to be rewarded with the message that 'Cyan is depleted' and of course you can't use the printer until that is replenished, (even though I was desperate to print of some b/w documentation).

So, I ordered a pack of HP originals and this morning replenished the Cyan.  Low and behold, I am now told I can't use the printer until the Yellow is changed. So I have just replaced that and this time I get a warning that the Magenta is low, but I do not need to replace it immediately.

So the question is, why does the printer say there is ink in the other cartridges prior to replacing the black and even though the printer prevents you from using it, as soon as it receives the new cartridge, it claims one of the colours is depleted. How can that be?

Not impressed but now fully understand why compatibles are so popular

Hi @Bungys

Would suggest that you monitor the ink usage. The colors could be evenly depleted one after another, hence the messages you're seeing.

Per our usage, the color inks deplete differently and there are times when we saw 1 color with "Low on Ink" and other times 2 color shows "Low on Ink" when we change out the inks.

We're using a Officjet Pro 8630.

Thanks.

Hi Bungys, I understand your concerns. It is time consuming for customers like to buy one catridge first then another message prompt to ask you to change another catridge. This is due to sometimes the ink sensor is not give the accurate ink level. Here are 3 ways HP have worked on how you can check the ink level:

1, from the top, there is an ink icon, you can touch there to check the ink level.

2. if you are connected to a network and you pc is connected to the same network, you can go to your browser and type in the IP address to go to the embedded weber server page to monitor the ink level and other printer status.

3. go to setup menu and print the status report. The ink level is there showing in the report.

Hope this can really help you out and have a nice day:)

This printer is an HP dream for selling ink. It uses a lot of ink.  HP wants you to subscribe, they want to charge you for using the printer PER PAGE, they want you to use only Genuine expensive HP ink and I have four from my last printer sitting right here on the shelf that no one will buy back because they're "expired". (4 HP96@$42.99=$171.96 plus tax DOWN THE DRAIN)

I have complained about this printer since the day I bought it. Today,  I need to print ONE BLACK AND WHITE PAGE so I can get something done. NOPE! I have to change out my black ink cartridge HP 950XL. No problem, I have one right here in the desk. NOPE!!!!

Now I have to replace the blue cartidge. Of course I don't have one, so I call customer service to find out how to print black only. A call to customer service takes at least an hour, for dialing, transfers, automessages that guess what you want and cant hear your responses, then the operator to redirect somewhere in a land far away. Finally, a nice person who must hear your explaination and apologize profusely, then repeat your issue to you. Finally, we get down to the real issue: YOU MUST BUY MORE INK MORE INK MORE INK MORE INK.

I have owned this printer for one year and spent more for ink than the cost of the printer. I will never buy another one.
