Hi,
I have had my HP 8740 printer for two month now. I have received the error B8B33B74 about three times. First time i thought it was a fluke but it has happened a few more time since then. The only way to clear the error message is to turn off the power. When I turn the power back on, i recieve the message that i did not power the unit down correctly. Error message picture included.
Besides this error message, I have not had any other isses.
Thanks,

This is a hardware issue with the printer.
I have sent you a private message, to contact HP Phone support depending on the product that cannot be shared in a public post.

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Is the printer directly connected to the wall outlet?
Any hardware or software changes made in the printer?
Is the carriage moving freely?
I suggest you do a Hard Reset
(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue. (remove the cartridge, put the latch down and close the door)
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed. ( install the cartridge)
Keep me posted, how it goes!
Have a great day!
Cheers:)

Thanks for the reply,
Answering your questions:
Is the printer directly connected to the wall outlet? Yes
Any hardware or software changes made in the printer? No hardware or software changes, except to get the printer on my local network. I have upgraded to the latest firmware after I installed in August.
Is the carriage moving freely? Yes
I did the hard reset. I was expecting this to force me to set the printer backup. However, all I could see is that it wasted ink doing a print head alignment. The printer is still setup with my Eithernet and fax settings.
Are you would able to provide any insight to the error message I received?
