I have purchased an new Officejet 250 on the 14th November 2024 (3 weeks ago) and it is saying that the batterw is defective and needs replacing. Any ideas what am I to do?

Might be old stock printer, what is the production date on the battery itself ?

Thanks Valslmot, your advice was spot on, it was an old battery and when I checked the warranty with HP, it was an old printer too, its warranty had already been registered 6 months ago!!! This had been returned to the supplier as faulty and shipped out to the next customer – me!  The supplier now has the printer returned with a terse note!! I have ordered a ‘new’ one from a different supplier. Thanks for your help.

Check the new printer too, Officejet 250 I am 99% sure is no longer produced and the customers are left with old stock.
