Hi there

My printer has suddenly stopped printing in black

The ink ran out so I replaced with a new cartridge

When I print out the ink levels bit the tricolour and black are on there perfectly

When I go to print normally, no black is visable

Done 2 cartridge cleans and rebooted printer

What's wrong? Find it odd that it's visible when printing colour levels out

Thanks

Hi @Brioney,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already taken some good troubleshooting steps. Since you've replaced the cartridge, done multiple cleans, and rebooted the printer, there might be a couple of other things to check.

  • Nozzle Check: Many printers have a utility to print a nozzle check pattern. This will show you if there are any issues with the printhead nozzles. If the black is still not printing on this test, it could indicate a deeper problem with the printhead itself.
  • Alignment: Sometimes, alignment issues can cause printing problems. Your printer should have a utility to align the printhead. Running this might help if alignment issues are causing the black not to print correctly.
  • Driver/Software: Ensure that your printer driver and software are up to date. Sometimes, outdated software can cause printing issues. You might also try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer driver to ensure it's not a software problem.
  • Physical Inspection: Inspect the cartridge and the printer for any physical obstructions or issues that might be preventing the black ink from flowing properly.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be worth contacting HP support or taking the printer to a service center for further diagnosis.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
