My printer is obviously very old but works well. At least it did until I changed my laptop and now have Windows 10. Now the printer works but the scanner doesn't work. I have no idea what to do and would appreciate some help. HP no longer supports this printer as it's so old. Many thanks.

You're a star. Thank you. That worked a a PDF scan but only appears in Google Chrome so I can't download it as a regular PDF in my files. Sorry if that's a bit vague. I'm not great at this. Basically I would like to download it from Chrome or at least save it as a document without being directed to chrome when I need to view it. I hope that makes sense. Many thanks for all your assistance. Jan

Hi,
Your printer is supported with a Windows built-in print and scan driver, scanning can be done from Paint or Windows Fax and Scan for your printer, as well the HP Scan and Capture app can be tried.
Follow 'How do I scan with the Windows built-in driver?' below to find out how to scan with the provided solution:

Thanks so much. The Windows scan app doesn't work. I got a message "something went wrong try again"
I have been able to scan using Paint and Windows Fax & Scan. But I can only get a 'photo' format whereas ideally I would like to scan a word document to word. Nevertheless with your help I can at least get something which is more than I could before so I'm very grateful. Many thanks. Janeliz

Please install and use HP Scan Extended, that should do the trick for PDF scanning:
