The panel buttons no longer work, and the display shows Power Save Mode. I've tried to reset the settings, unplugged the power, and anything else I could find, and nothing helped. Even HP print doctor couldn't help. HP has no support for this older printer.
If I cannot find an answer and resolve the issue, I will never buy another HP product.

Hi @SG08,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to deal with such persistent issues with your HP Officejet 4500 Wireless All-in-One Printer.
Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:
Hard Reset:
- Ensure the printer is turned on.
- With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
- Turn the printer back on if it doesn't turn on automatically.
Firmware Update: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- If your printer is connected to your computer, check if there are any firmware updates available. You can do this by visiting the HP Support website and entering your printer model.
Bypass Power Save Mode:
- Sometimes, a printer stuck in Power Save Mode can be reset by performing a sequence of button presses.
- Try pressing the "Cancel" button (X) and then the "Setup" button (wrench icon) on the printer panel, if available.
Re-seat the Cartridges:
- Turn on the printer and open the cartridge access door.
- Remove the cartridges and then reinsert them.
- Close the cartridge access door and see if the printer responds.
Printer's Static Memory Reset:
- With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then reconnect the power cord to the printer.
- Turn the printer back on if it doesn't turn on automatically.
Check for Jams or Obstructions:
- Open the printer and check for any paper jams or obstructions that might be causing the issue. Remove any debris carefully.
Check Power Source:
- Ensure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector or power strip. Sometimes, insufficient power can cause issues.
