I have 2 HP officejet4500 printers, they ran perfectly for 6 years. Suddenly both printers gave paper jam message with no obvious paper jamming.   I  looked carefully inside both printers and saw no paper jamming. I have solid knowledge in electronics but without electronic design  drawings it is difficult to diagnose. Unfortunately no one service HP ink jet printers where I live in Montreal, Canada so I have to depend on myself. I have a feeling that the message is coming from something jammed in the roller assembly which I did not disassemble yet to check. Is it possible to have a paper jam message because of something jammed in the roller assembly? Also I would like to know what is the source of paper jam message? is it sensor in the paper pass or something else?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Yes, something stuck in the rollers can definitely throw a paper jam message. Yes, it is sensor based. We can perform a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

Also, you can try steps from here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-4500-all-in-one-printer-series-g510/3919445/model/...

Let me know if this helps.

Hello,

Thanks a lot for the valuable information you provided; it is most appreciated.

I have completely disassembled the printer; it is an easy job but not for someone who is not handy.  The case of the paper jam error was dirt , not paper jam, in the roller assembly. Thorough cleaning of the rollers allowed to clear the paper jam and print normally.

Kind regards

Hazem
