HP Officejet 4650 Series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I recently purchased a new laptop and have been trying to install my hp officejet 4650 but it won't work. I don't get it because on my old laptop it still works, but on this one, it just won't connect.

I keep getting alerts saying this:

"Getting your device connected.

1. Make sure the device is awake.

2. If you don't see the home screen, your device may still be in setup mode. Press ok to continue to the home screen.

3. Touch the wireless icon on the device home screen (see image on the right). If the device display has turned OFF (device is asleep), touch anywhere on the screen to turn the display ON.

4. What status do you see at the top of the wireless information screen displayed ont he device?

o I see a status such as Not Connected or Wireless Off ( or I am not sure)

o I see the status is connected and the signal strength"

Every single time this pops up. It can't be my internet connection because everything works fine, even printing on my other computer.

I've tried both options, but nothing ever works. it keeps saying theres something wrong with my internet, but I don't know how that can be...

If I click the first option, this pops up:

"Connect your device to your wireless network.

1. Select settings or settings icon from the wireless status screen on the device display.

2. Select wireless setup wizard and follow the onscreen instructions.

3. Were you able to connect the device to your wireless network using the wireless setup wizard?

o Yes (the blue wireless light is on solid)

o No ( the blue wireless light is blinking or off)"

I always choose Yes, because the blue is never blinking or off. It is a solid blue.

If I click on the second option, it asks me to input my ip address, which i do, and then this pop up comes up:

"There is a problem communicating with the printer.

Check your network connection and verify that the printer is ready.

If you installed this printer by address , then you might need to update the ip address.

Use the update ip address item in the start menu entry for this printer.

If the problem persists, it may be related to your current firewall settings.

Click here for help configuring your firewall.

"Retry" "Close" "

Just so you know, I did go to the "updates" tab for hp printer, but it said everything was up to date.

Am I supposed to be connected to only one laptop at a time? If so how do you even disconnect my old laptop?

Someone help me please.

Thanks.

Hi @BrittanyMB,

Good Day.  Thank you for posting your query in the HP community.  I read the post regarding the printer not connecting to the wireless network. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description and spectacular troubleshooting and commendable diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did you hard reset the printer and check?
  • Did you try to assign a manual IP address on the printer?

Please perform a hard reset on the printer first from this link: http://hp.care/2f1eGQM and perform only step 1 for a hard reset.

Then from this document: http://hp.care/2f1eIYU for printer not found during network setup please follow steps 1,2, and 4 only. not step3)

Step 1: Restart the computer, printer, and router

Step 2: Check the network and printer connection status

Step 4: Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor

Then uninstall the printer drivers by following these steps:

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.

  • Then download the latest full feature driver from http://hp.care/2tCq378 and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
  • Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
  • Later assign a manual IP address for the printer from this link: http://hp.care/2f1eLny     follow Step 6: Create a manual connection (network connections only) for printer offline issues.

This will fix the issue and do the trick for you.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Hi, thank you for your help.

I tried resetting my computer, printer, and then modem. Thats when something went weird. My modem wouldn't reconnect. I had to reset it many times until suddenly it told me to reinstall my internet. After it was reinstalled, I somehow got it to work and get my printer installed! so success, yay!

I'm guessing the issue was with my modem? It was strange, I don't understand what happened.

Anyways, I'm greatful for your help, thanks so much!
