HP Officejet 6000
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi

We have an Officejet 6000 hooked up via usb cable to a computer running Windows 7 64-bit.  An issue started where when printing, the pages keep coming out blank.  The black toner light was on, so I did replace the cartridge and tore off all the necessary tabs from the cartridge before seating properly.  Pages are still coming out blank.  I found a procedure online on how to do a hard reset by unplugging the power, holding the power button down, etc.  That still didn't fix the issue.  None of the ink cartridge lights are on to indicate anything is low.

Some other quick notes - the printer was on an older machine working fine and transfered to this new one.  When I hooked it up to the new one, I allowed it to find the printer driver automaticaly and it was printing OK before this issue popped up.  This was maybe less than a month ago.

Thanks for any feedback

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case relating to the printer is printing blank pages. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this.

Did you vent and seat the cartridge correctly

If not, Make sure that the cartridges are properly vented and seated correctly

If the vent on the top of the cartridge is clogged or obstructed, the cartridge might not work properly. Follow these steps to make sure that the cartridges are properly vented and seated correctly.

  1. If the printer is not already on, press the Power button to turn it on.

  2. Open the top cover.

Figure : Open the top cover

    Image: Open the top cover

The carriage moves to the center of the printer. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before continuing.

  3. Press the tab on the front of one of the cartridges to release it, and then remove it from its slot.

       CAUTION:

Do not lift the gray latch next to the carriage to remove the cartridge. Doing so can result in incorrectly seated cartridges and printing problems.

  4. Examine the vent area above the HP logo on the top of the cartridge.

  5. If the cartridge still has the orange pull-tab attached, pull to remove it.

  6. If the vent is clogged, use a straight pin to gently remove excess adhesive from the vent.

    2. With a straight pin, gently remove excess adhesive from the vent

    3. Unclogged vent

  7. With the nozzle and contacts facing down, slide the cartridge into its slot. Press down on the cartridge until it clicks into place.

       NOTE:

Make sure that each cartridge is installed in the correct slot. Match the shape of the icon and the color of the cartridge with the slot that has the same shaped icon and color.

  8. Repeat these steps to inspect the vents on each of the cartridges.

  9. Make sure that each cartridge is firmly in place in its slot. Run your finger along the top of the cartridges to feel for any that are protruding, and if any are, press down firmly until each cartridge snaps into place.

  10. Close the top cover.

  11. Try the print job again.

Clean the printhead

Click the Windows icon (), click All Programs, click HP, and then click HP Solution Center.

  1. Click Settings ().

  2. In the Print Settings area, click Printer Toolbox. The printer Toolbox opens.

  3. On the Device Services tab, click Clean the Printheads ().

  4. Click Clean to begin the process.

Align the printer

  1. Load plain white paper in the input tray.

  2. Open HP Solution Center:

  3. Click Settings ().

  4. Under Print Settings, click Printer Toolbox. The printer Toolbox opens in a new window.

  5. Click the Device Services tab.

  6. Click Align the Printheads.

The product aligns the printheads. When the alignment is complete, the product prints an alignment page.

       NOTE:

Mechanical noises during and after alignment are normal.

  7. Recycle or discard the alignment page.

Hi Sandy

Turns out, I was able to figure out even more details as to why the printer is printing blank.  Apparently the print heads/etc. are fine because I can log into Windows under my username and the printer works fine.  If I log in under a difference user however, it prints blank pages.  We have a couple users who use this computer.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

I made it through all all the steps up to running the downloaded driver.  When I  extracted the program and then made it a few windows in after selecting USB printer, I did get an error saying something about the USB functionality and it made me stop there.  Just to see what would happen, I restarted the computer and tried to print.....and it worked (for some reason).  I was able to swtich between users and the printer worked fine.  This is without completing setup of the downloaded driver file.

We will watch for any other errors.  Thanks so much for the support.
