Hi@420benz2

Thank you for the update.

Yes, your printer does not support the single cartridge mode, in order to print you need all the cartridges inside the printer.I suggest you, use the color cartridge at least once in a week.

For best results, use genuine HP cartridges and follow these guidelines:

  • Keep ink cartridges sealed in the original package until they are installed. Store at temperatures between -15 and 35 degrees Celsius (5 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit).

  • To keep cartridges from drying out, always turn the printer off using the Power button, and wait until the Power light goes out before you pull the plug or turn off a power strip. This allows the printer to move the cartridges to a capped position.

  • If you remove a cartridge from the printer for any reason, try to replace it again as soon as possible. Outside of the printer, if unprotected, cartridges begin to dry out. If the printer uses separate ink cartridges and printhead, the printhead can be damaged if cartridges are not installed.

  • If you must store a cartridge outside of the printer, follow the guidelines in “Storing Opened Cartridges and Printheads”.

  • When it is time to dispose of a cartridge, visit hp.com/recycle to learn about the HP Planet Partners Return and Recycling program and order free return shipping materials (not available in all countries).

Hello@420benz2

Welcome to the HP Forums.I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. As I understand you have need assistance on printing only black.I'll be more than glad to help you out.

Let's follow these simple steps:

You can change the print settings to print in color, grayscale, or black ink only.

  • ColorSmart/sRGB: Print using color ink.

  • Grayscale: Print with multiple shades of gray. This setting might use color ink, in addition to black ink for better results.

  • High Quality: High quality grayscale printing. Increases the dots-per-inch (dpi) on the page, allowing for more detailed photos and sharper text. This setting might use color ink, in addition to black ink for better results.

  • Black Ink Only: Print with black ink only.

  1. On your Mac, open the photo or document you want to print.

  2. Click File, and then click Print.

  3. Make sure your printer is selected.

  4. If you do not see options on the Print dialog box, click Show Details.

  5. Under Paper Type/Quality, click Color Options, and then select ColorSmart/sRGB or Grayscale.

If you select Grayscale, the Grayscale Mode options display. Select High Quality or Black Ink Only.

Thanks for the info. I asume that I still need to have the color cartridges installed. If so will the color ink eventually dry up if they are not used?
