I recently received an HP Officejet 7612 & it is stuck on the initializing screen as I see many others have encountered the same issue, but have been unable to get it to go through with any of the tips & tricks as advised...resetting, unplugging, etc. What is the secret to getting it to initialize before I return it?

Hi @ldmitch221,

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I see from the post that you are having an issue with the printer stuck on initializing screen on HP OfficeJet Printer. Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you get through this concern,

Let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to check for the latest firmware update if available for your printer, using this website

If nothing works, I would suggest you could try to perform an advance reset on the printer. I am sending you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

Let me know how that goes. Good luck!
Cheers 🙂

As I understand the computer is powering on but there's no display on the screen, The computer turns off after a few seconds after it's turned on,

To provide an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

What is the product number of this computer? (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

Have you performed any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?

In the meantime, you perform the below steps: Start off by performing a Hard Reset on the notebook

If the computer still turns off every few seconds, try with an alternate adapter and/or remove the battery and try turning on the computer without the battery, only connect the adapter and start, let me know if that works.

One of your responders made the following comment to a previous post:

"If the issue persists, I would suggest the next option would be to perform an advanced reset on the printer.

I am sending you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. "

Greetings @Archer4

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that your printer is stuck on initializing, is that right?

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.

May I know the steps attempted?

Are you using a surge protector to power your printer?

Recommend you perform a hard reset on the printer as suggested below.

  1. Turn on the printer.

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  3. Disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the printer. If your printer has a network or wireless connection, leave it connected.

  4. Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.

  5. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet or power strip.

  6. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  7. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

      note:

HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to a wall outlet.

  8. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  9. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

  10. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

  11. Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door.

  12. If you receive a prompt to print a calibration page, do so.

  13. If you disconnected the USB cable, reconnect it to the rear of the printer.

  14. Try to print.

If the issue persists, connect the printer to your computer using a USB cable.

Visit www.hp.com/drivers and enter the printer model you are using.

Download and install the firmware update on your printer.

Let me know if this helped.

I tried your solution but printer is not reset. Kindly help.
I bought HP 7612 today, After Power on, Printer asked the language and country, I selected English and Pakistan. After that stage I was waiting the printer to ask me to install the ink cartridges but it stuck in 'Initializing Setup'. The driver is installed. Scanner is working. Inks are being shown as full but when I send a print, the computer shows that the driver is not installed.

What is the operating system you are using?

  2. Remove USB cable, if present.
  3. Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  4. Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  5. Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Thank you for your reply. My OS is Windows 10. I have tried the suggested procedure but no success. I of HP professional came on my request and rectified the problem by adjsting something around printhead physically. The printer is now working. I don't know what he actually did and he is also not interested to share his technique.

Regards.
