Officejet 8620e All-In-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have had this printer since August 2015 and always use the HP inks. Out of the blue yesterday, after I switched in on to print, the display on the printer came up with error code 0xc19a0003 and says "the print head appears to be missing, not detected or incorrectly installed".

I followed the simple guidance to start with where you switch off the printer by taking the power lead out of the back, and also unplugging the plug from the wall and leaving for 60 seconds. I tried that 3 times at least then I tried to reseat the printhead as per HP guidance and that made no difference.

I then removed the printhead, took the 4 screws out and examined the electrical contacts, they were all good. I also did a software update at the printer but again no joy. It now is saying that all the ink cartridges are out aswell although they are at 50% full??

It seems to be a common fault but the printheads are like GBP 150-200 each, more than the printer cost!

Is it definitely a new print head which is required or is there another fix that works? I can buy another printer but I care about the environment and I don't want to throw this into landfill!

Many thanks for your guidance guys!

Cheers

@cbxman61,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

Let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

1) Take out the cartridges.
2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
3) Wait for 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not to a surge protector.
5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

You may try to attempt updating the printer firmware. For more details on how to update, please use this link: HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Next thing, I would suggest here is to follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP OfficeJet Printers - Resolving 'Missing or Failed Printhead' Error

Alternatively, you can also follow the steps from this link: HP Officejet 8600 Printers - 'Ink System Failure' Error (This document also has steps for updating the printer).

If you have tried the steps suggested and still having this issue, this looks like a possible hardware failure. However, there is no harm in trying to perform an advanced reset on the printer.

Doing this will set the printer back to the factory settings.

I am going to send you a private message with the instructions on how to perform an advanced reset. Now these steps are specific to your printer only.

Please check the mailbox icon at the top-right corner of this screen.

Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile,

Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

I hope this helps resolve this issue completely,
