HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

For over 2 months our printer has every single day a message saying "the printer updated could not be downloaded. Touch Retry to start the download again. Touch ok to exit"

If you click Retry the printer says downloading, gets to sometimes 3%, sometimes 30% and then says download unsuccessful and the same message as above appears.

If you click ok the printer goes off and its nigh on impossible to get it to turn back on, we have to unplug it from the mains and the lead from the printer and  keep trying the power button to get it back on.

No idea whats gone wrong but I need a working printer. Why/what is the printer trying to download?  Seen a lot about this on social media. Help

@planegirl, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

To assist you better, are you referring to the firmware update?

Are you able to print and scan fine?

Is the printer connected to a secure network?

Print a Printer Status Report

  1. On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon .

  2. Swipe up on the display, touch Reports, and then touch Printer Status Report.

  3. Check the firmware version installed.

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your PC.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Restart the printer.

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.
