Hi @Crescencio
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer is experiencing a power issue, as it's not fully turning on, and only a few lights are illuminated. Let's go through a few troubleshooting steps to get it working:
1. Check the Power Supply
Ensure the printer is properly connected to a working power source:
- Power Cable: Make sure the power cord is securely plugged into both the printer and the wall outlet. Try using a different power outlet to rule out any issues with the current outlet.
- Power Strip: If you’re using a power strip or surge protector, try plugging the printer directly into the wall outlet instead, as the power strip may be faulty.
- Cable Condition: Inspect the power cable for any visible signs of damage. If the cable is damaged, replacing it might resolve the issue.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
Sometimes a hard reset can help resolve power-related issues:
- Turn off the printer (if possible) by pressing and holding the Power button for about 5-10 seconds.
- Unplug the printer from the power source.
- Wait for 1-2 minutes.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
3. Check for Paper Jams or Blockages
If there is a paper jam or blockage inside the printer, it might cause the printer to not power on fully:
- Open the printer’s paper tray and check for any obstructions or paper jams.
- Check inside the printer by opening the front and rear access panels and look for any jammed paper or foreign objects that could be blocking it from starting up properly.
4. Check for Display or Panel Issues
If the printer’s display isn’t turning on, the issue could be related to the touch panel itself:
- Look for any flickering or signs of life on the screen after following the steps above.
- If the screen is completely blank, there may be a deeper hardware issue that requires servicing or replacement of the display.
5. Check for Firmware/Software Issues
If the printer is powered on but unresponsive:
- Try connecting it to your computer via USB (if possible) and check if your computer detects it.
- You can also try reinstalling the printer drivers and software using the HP Smart app or the HP Support Assistant (if the printer eventually powers up).
6. Disconnect and Reconnect Wi-Fi
Since you mentioned that the Wi-Fi signal light is on, it’s possible the printer might be trying to connect to a network. To rule out any issues with Wi-Fi setup:
- Disconnect the printer from Wi-Fi temporarily and see if it powers up normally without trying to connect.
7. Perform a System Recovery (If Available)
If your printer still isn’t turning on after trying the above, and if the display is completely unresponsive, performing a system recovery might help. However, this may require accessing the printer’s internal recovery options via a specific key combination.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
