There is a problem with the printer where it runs, the paper comes out and there is nothing legible on the paper.  Are the cartridges too old?  We just set it up to use after having it four years or so.  Could it be it is out of ink?  Would it not tell us it is out of ink?  It could be dried up in there.

A warm welcome to HP Forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

Yes, the printer will display an ink alert notification on the printer control panel if it requires replacing.

Since you haven't used the printer for a while, its possible that the ink cartridge or printhead nozzles are clogged. Power resetting the printer, performing automated and manual cleaning may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector

2) Remove all of your ink cartridges from the printer and close the door

3) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)

4) Clean the ink cartridges, refer to solution 3 from this document.

5) Plug the power cord back into the printer

6) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the ink cartridges.

7) On the printer control panel, press and hold (Power) button.

8). Press (Cancel) button two times, and then press (Resume) button once.

9) Release (Power) button. Printer will start the printhead cleaning.

Let me know how it goes!
