HP Officejet Pro 8600 Printer Failure error will not clear on the printer screen and I can't do anything on the printer itself. I have gone through several troubleshooting recommendations and none have helped. I cleaned the ink cartridge and the bronze chip, i took out the tray the ink cartridges sit in and I looked for paper jams - nothing has helped! I reset as instructed as well and then finally troubleshot through hpsmart and it says to do a test print and nothing prints - the error remains on the printer's screen! PLEASE HELP!

Hi @Hopeka777,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with the "Printer Failure" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600, especially after trying various troubleshooting steps. Here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power outlet.
  2. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  3. Plug the printer back in and turn it on. This simple reset can sometimes clear errors.

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  2. Press and hold the power button on the printer for 30 seconds to drain any residual power.
  3. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Check for Hardware Issues

  • Inspect Ink Cartridges: Ensure that the ink cartridges are correctly seated. Try removing them and reinserting them. Check for any damage or leaks.
  • Check the Printhead: Remove the printhead and clean the electrical contacts with a soft cloth. Make sure there’s no obstruction in the printhead area.

Update Printer Firmware

  1. If the printer is responsive enough, connect it to your Wi-Fi network.
  2. Use the HP Smart app or the printer's web interface (if accessible) to check for and install any firmware updates.

Use HP's Diagnostic Tools

  • If you haven’t already, download the HP Print and Scan Doctor. This tool can help diagnose and fix printer issues automatically.

Factory Reset the Printer

  1. On the printer's control panel, navigate to Setup > Tools > Restore Factory Defaults.
  2. Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to restart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
