I have forgotten the admin password for my  HP Officejet Pro 8620 and I need to change the network and scan to email settings. Can you please provide me the steps to reset the admin password or reset the printer back to factory default. Thanks,

That information cannot be provided here, you must contact an HP agent.

your support page
Select the product you need help with and scroll down to support options.
Select "Contact us". You can change country and language if necessary.

If there is a problem contacting an agent or your warranty expired then you can also ask Microsoft's Copilot for help. Be sure to identify it as Laserjet, Officejet or Deskjet as some model names are identical but the printer is different. Be sure to ask Copilot for videos. Copilot has access to features and information that might be missing from the older HP manuals available on the web.

The password is not needed for network setup.  Also, if you are trying to change the email password and get an error it may be that your password is valid but is an "account" password and you need an "application" or "app" password as discussed here.

=============I have some videos that might help with connecting==========

Watch the reset video. After resetting, you generally have 2 hours to complete the setup. Decide if you want to connect the printer to the router or to print directly to the printer and bypass the router.

Many HP and other OEM printers have problems with the router when the router has two bands and both bands have the same name (SSID). Log into the modem and rename one of the bands. Alternately, contact your ISP and have them rename a band.

Or simply use Wi-Fi direct.

If English is not your native language or if you wish to get additional information not covered below, then use the HP and Microsoft support assistants. The latest HPSA supports 36 languages and can be downloaded here. Microsoft's AI assistant is in the latest Windows 10 and 11 releases and there are instructions here on how to enable the AI. Microsoft's AI assistant (Copilot) has a microphone button and supports natural language processing.

You may need to reset the printer: video here

1. From the printer control panel, touch and slide your finger across the screen, touch Setup, and then touch Network Setup.
2. Touch Restore Network Defaults, and then touch Yes. A message appears stating that the network defaults have been restored.
3. Touch OK.
4. Print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset.

Wi-Fi setup to router: video here at 8;40 for Wi-Fi

For Wi-Fi direct setup click here.
This is useful if there is no modem or you do not want to use the modem / router.

Simple push button or WPS setup is described 56 seconds into this video. This is the push button connect where you do not need a password.

Let me know if you have a flex system (Wi-Fi boosters or repeaters) as the setup is much more complicated for routers.
